Sacrificing Issac

So, I apologize for not putting down the scripture in this posting, but I will still give the reference. In Genesis chapter 22, Abraham is commanded to sacrifice Issac. And as he is about to an angel tells him to stop and that he is essence has proven worthy. Just because of where I am there is a lot of focus on Abraham and the wonderful promise that was made to him. Well, after the angel stopped Abraham from sacrificing Issac, he then told him the same blessing that has already been given.

Now, I take it from this that there are some blessings that are just given to us by simple things, such as asking, or sometime just because Heavenly Father loves us. But there are some blessings that we have to prove our worthiness, or our deserving of a blessing. Because Heavenly Father was going to make Abraham's descendants the covenant people, He wanted to make sure Abraham would teach his Issac to obey. Then in turn, Issac had to do the same, and then again with Jacob. I can't imagine anything more difficult than willing to sacrifice your own child to please the Lord, and so by willing, Abraham secured for himself the blessing that God was willing to grant him.

Final thought about this, Heavenly Father knew Abraham would be willing, but I think Heavenly Father wanted Abraham to know something about his own level of obedience.
